High School Co-operative Education
High School Co-operative Education Opportunities in the GIS Laboratory and Centre for Spatial Analysis at McMaster University
The Ontario High School Co-op Program is a mode of experiential learning, in which students receive 2 high school credits for their involvement. The GIS Laboratory has participated in this program since 2002.
Students in Grade 11 or 12 who have completed CGT3E or CG04M are encouraged to talk to their Head of Geography and Co-operative education teachers regarding potential opportunities for co-op in the GIS Lab and Centre for Spatial Analysis.
REQUIREMENTS
Students must be conversant with ArcView software.
Co-operative Education teachers must contact Deane Maynard by June of each year, in order to allow time for preparation of student projects.
The GIS Laboratory and Centre for Spatial Analysis will provide projects for one student each year in the first semester (September) in accordance with the Board of Education policies for High School Co-operative Education.
Students will develop technical and personal transferable skills in the following:
GIS and GPS
Independent working
Team skills
Time management
Database cataloguing
Special event organization (GIS Day annually in December)
Teaching (GIS Day)
Communication
