Hello and welcome to the Department of Kinesiology! Thanks for taking the time to visit our site and for your interest in our program. We will, as of November 2011, begin accepting applications for the next academic year beginning in September of 2012. The Kinesiology department at McMaster has a thriving and active group of extremely productive researchers. We have areas of research focus in Biomechanics, Cellular and Exercise Physiology, Health Psychology, Motor Learning and Motor Control, as well as Rehabilitation. In each of these areas we have some of the leading Canadian and indeed the worlds leading researchers. Funding for research for these scholars comes from all of Canada’s three funding councils SSHRC , NSERC , and CIHR , and from a wide variety of private and public agencies. All together our faculty members hold grants as principal and co-investigators that total in excess of $1.6 million annually. All faculty members are committed to providing a collegial, interactive, and enriching experience for their students. National and international exchanges of students with other labs are common and seen as a terrific adjunct to a number of student’s course of study. Our students have enjoyed tremendous success in obtaining external funding for their work. Fifty percent of our MSc students and 90% of our PhD students are externally funded; all students who qualify for entrance are required to apply for some form of funding from a variety of agencies, including the tri-council agencies listed above and the Ontario Graduate Scholarship. So you might be asking yourself, where do I start? Well the first thing is to take a look at our faculty profiles and find someone with whom you might be interested in working, and contact them. On an individual basis seek their advice and counsel about what you might do while working with them. What if you can’t connect with a faculty advisor, should I still apply? Yes, certainly. We are always interested in qualified applicants and we make decisions regarding students on an ‘ad hoc’ rolling basis, so apply! What can I do with my degree? Our graduates have gone on to pursue a number of careers in academics, health-related research, teaching, sales, and pure research. No matter what your end goal we can provide you with an excellent experience. We are proud of the achievements of all of our graduate students; they are our best ambassadors. If we can be of assistance do not hesitate to contact Rebecca Clifford, our Graduate Administrator, at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . We look forward to hearing from all of you! Best of luck, |
