Research
My research program focuses on psychosocial influences on, and consequences of, physical activity participation. With regards to the study of influences, I am particularly interested in understanding and modifying theory-based determinants of physical activity. For instance, one of my lines of research addresses the role of self-regulation in the initiation and maintenance of exercise behaviour. With regards to consequences, much of my work focuses on understanding the psychosocial benefits of physical activity. For example, I have conducted several studies examining the effects of exercise on body image. Over the past 10 years, I have devoted much of my research to studying the antecedents and consequences of physical activity participation among people with spinal cord injury (SCI). You can learn more about my SCI research program at www.sciactioncanada.ca My research program is currently funded by SSHRC, CIHR, the Ontario Neurotrauma Foundation and the Rick Hansen Institute.PublicationsMartin Ginis, K.
