Welcome to McMaster’s Mathematics & Statistics Outreach!
Using the links on the left you will find information about our various outreach programs. These include the Math@Mac Online Mathematics Competition for high school students to be held on Wednesday, November 30, 2011 and Math@Mac Day for high school students to be held on Tuesday, March 6, 2012.
Secondary math teachers are also invited to bring a class or group of interested students to McMaster’s Engineering and Science Olympics to be held on October 6, 2011. Enter a team in the Mental Gymnastics Mathematics Competition or bring your entire class to a presentation of “Modern Mathematics Applications” by Dr. Miroslav Lovric.
Our annual Dialogue on Transition Issues hosted by the Department of Mathematics and Statistics will be held on Tuesday, February 14, 2012. Grade 12 mathematics teachers, Math Heads, and high school guidance counselors are invited to take part in a dialogue with faculty in the department. We will focus on issues of concern to high school teachers and will provide feedback from undergraduates about preparedness for university level math courses.
The Mathematics Review Manual is an excellent resource for students who will need to take first year calculus at university. It is strongly recommended that students work through the review during the summer months before their first semester at university.
Teachers of elementary and secondary mathematics and science are encouraged to explore the opportunities offered by Let’s Talk Science. We also encourage elementary teachers to consider organizing a math fair at their school using SNAP Math Fair guidelines.
