Research Interests

Research Interests

  • Development of accelerator-based single-ion biological microprobe
  • Novel applications of electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) dosimetry for radiological emergencies and forensic analysis
  • Applications of EPR and optically-stimulated luminescence (OSL) dosimetry to geochronology and archaeology

Dr. Thompson is a member of the Boreham group and is developing the single-proton microprobe for accelerator-based studies of low doses on biological systems in vitro.  His research includes development of the proportional counter hit detection system and development of software for imaging, targeting, and irradiation.

In addition, Dr. Thompson maintains active research in developing new techniques of EPR and OSL dosimetry to potential radiological emergencies.

Dr. Thompson has extensive experience with software development (FORTRAN-77, IDL, Mathematica) for simulation, visualization, and data analysis.

Dr. Thompson received his Ph.D. in 2007 from McMaster University under the supervision of Dr. Jack Rink.  His Ph.D. research focused on the applications of EPR dosimetry to geochronology.
