Reading Groups in the PNB Department

Faces Reading Group

  • Wednesday at 2:30-3:30 PM in Room PC-316.
  • The Faces Reading Group meets on a weekly basis to review articles from within the broad field of face processing.  Topics range from basic perception to top-down processing while also touching on the social aspects of face perception.  Our reading group includes individuals from a variety of backgrounds who share a common interest in learning more about the way that we perceive faces.   Anyone with an interest in faces is more than welcome to attend!

Readings, Explorations and Ventures in Bayesian Inference

  • Last Wed. of the month, 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM in PC 330.
  • REV Bayes (Readings, Explorations and Ventures in Bayesian Inference) is open to anyone with a Bayesian bent and a working knowledge of Bayesian inference, who wants to delve deeper into the subject. We discuss articles on a wide variety of topics, ranging from Bayesian psychophysical methods to neuronal and perceptual models.

MIMM Journal Club

  • usually 3rd Friday of the month, 12:30pm - PC/204
  • The McMaster Institute for Music and the Mind hosts a monthly Journal Club to discuss recent papers of broad interest in the field of music cognition. Everyone is welcome! Our current journal club members include psychologists, musicians, mathematiciams, engineers, music teachers, graduate and undergraduate students and interested community members.

Animal Behaviour Journal Club

  • Thursdays 12:30pm - PC/316
  • ABJC is a weekly journal club where we discuss a recent animal behaviour article. Most meetings are led by one of our members but occasionally we have a talk by a special guest.

Developmental Journal Club

  • Thursdays (Oct 2, Nov 6, 27) 3:30-4:30 - PC/316
  • DJC is a journal club devoted to discussion of development in a
    variety of functional domains, from perceptual to emotional. Meetings are led by journal club members and focus on empirical/theoreticalpapers chosen by individual members or student research presentations.
  • Currently, the main DJC theme centers around issues of fetal programming and more generally, the importance of early experience (pre, peri- and post-natal) for altering development in multiple functional systems.

Cognition Reading Group
