Kids, Cats, and Concepts: Toward a Cognitive Theory of Medical Diagnostic Reasoning 

Few researchers would dare take on the challenge of developing a grand unified theory of thinking, but then again, Geoff Norman is no ordinary researcher.  In this enlightening talk, Geoff will explain how understanding how trained physicians make medical diagnoses and how ordinary people categorize everyday items can help us develop a theory on human information processing.

Geoff Norman received a BSc in physics from the University of Manitoba in 1965 and a PhD in nuclear physics from McMaster University in 1971, and subsequently a MA in educational psychology from Michigan State University in 1977. He is a member of the Royal Society of Canada and has won numerous awards including most recently the Karolinska Prize for research in medical education.
