Looking for a job whether it is part-time, summer or your first full-time job can be daunting and down right scary. Luckily SCCE has many resources and advice available to you to reduce the fear. The following tools and techniques will help you achieve success in your job search activities.

Success Stories
Start out by thinking about the industries you find interesting and begin researching companies and careers that exist within it. Dedicate time each week to doing research and soon you will have a better idea of what that industry offers. If you find out that you are not that interested in a particular industry – that’s great as half the battle lies in knowing what you don’t want to do. For suggestions on some companies to research check out where fellow McMaster Alumni from your area of study have worked. Graduate Recruitment Are you graduating this year? Recruitment for new graduates can start in as early as September with such activities as: Summer Jobs Many employers start recruiting for summer as early as January. By starting early you give yourself lots of time to research organizations and prepare applications and you get to compete for the best opportunities. There are several programs and events to help you with your summer job search: Part-time Jobs Whether you are looking on or off campus, a great variety of part-time jobs are available. It is most important to be organized during your job search and to create a plan that will keep you on track. There will be many opportunities during your undergraduate studies to expand your network and meet people who can assist you in your career development. Volunteer, paid, long or short term…the skills gained from relevant experience is highly valued from a potential employer’s perspective. Search Job Postings both on and off campus. Working will help you gain experience to round out and enhance your academic skills and increase your competitive edge. The building blocks of a successful job search strategy are the tools that you use to communicate about your skills, experience and intentions.
