Graduate Opportunites in Spatial Analysis

Dr. Pavlos S. Kanaroglou, Professor

We are interested in attracting qualified and motivated graduate students wishing to pursue M.A, M.Sc or Ph.D degrees in Spatial Analysis with emphasis in Transportation Analysis, Land Use and Population Analysis at the Urban and Regional level. We offer to all our graduate students a comprehensive package of teaching/research assistantships and departmental scholarships. Successful graduate students will join an internationally recognized group in Spatial Analysis and its applications (http://sciwebserver.science.mcmaster.ca/cspa/index.html) and they will have the opportunity to participate in relevant projects through the McMaster Institute for Transportation and Logistics.

Dr. K. Bruce Newbold, Professor,

Undergraduate and graduate students interested in the application of GIS and spatial analytical methods to real-world problems, including population migration and health questions are encouraged to apply. Particular research opportunities are currently available related to my research interests linking (i) population migration and commuting behaviour, and (ii) blood donor profiling.

Dr. Antonio Páez, Associate Professor

Main areas of interest are spatial analysis, transportation and travel behavior. This areas should be of interest to students who wish to train in the application of quantitative techniques to real world problems.

Dr. Darren M. Scott, Professor

Students interested in basic, methodological and applied research in the field of transportation are encouraged to apply. Areas of study include, but are not limited to, critical transportation infrastructure, GIS-T, sustainable transportation, time geography, and travel behavior. Students should be prepared to apply GIS, GPS, and/or quantitative methods in their research, which is conducted in TransLAB  – a state-of-the-art research facility at McMaster for transportation research.

Dr. Niko Yiannakoulias, Assistant Professor

I'm looking for graduate students interested in methodological problems in one of two areas: disease cluster detection and spatial infectious disease modelling.  I'm also recruiting graduate students with interest in applied areas, including: child health, child activity and play, active transportation safety and disease surveillance.
