Prospective Undergraduate Students

Undergraduate Students

The School of Geography and Earth Sciences is committed to providing an innovative, stimulating and rewarding learning experience for all undergraduate students. Through our ongoing curriculum development process we have created new and exciting undergraduate programs that lead to either Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) or Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degrees. We provide students with an educational experience that will prepare them well for their future careers by integrating practical experiences and personal skills development into our courses. A number of award winning professors teach in our programs.

Our introductory courses are large (200+ students) but our upper level courses are quite small, with less than 30 students in most fourth year courses. In the large introductory classes, students work part of the time in smaller tutorial groups (of less than 30 students) taught by graduate students or senior undergraduates. These tutorials meet weekly and provide students with an opportunity to work on course assignments and ask questions of their tutor in a smaller group setting.

We have two undergraduate advisors in the school who are available to answer students’ questions about courses, program options, career options and University services.

Dr. Michael Mercier at sgesba@mcmaster.ca provides academic advice about our B.A. programs and contact Luc Bernier, email:sgesbsc@mcmaster.ca for advice about our B.Sc. programs.
