Scholarships and Awards

Students registered in undergraduate programs in the School of Geography and Earth Sciences have many opportunities to obtain scholarships to support their studies. Some of the scholarships and awards available to students in SGES are listed below. Most are awarded on the basis of marks obtained or accomplishments made by the students during their studies. THE MIDDLETON / WALKER TRIBUTE FUND

McMaster University is proud to announce the launch of two new awards honouring Gerard Middleton and Roger Walker. These awards are funded by former students of Drs. Middleton and Walker in recognition of their outstanding contributions as educators and scientists in the field of sedimentary geology, and by matching gifts from corporate partners.

The Middleton / Walker Prize in Sedimentary Geology

Established in 2010 in honour of Gerard Middleton and Roger Walker by a generation of grateful students who studied under them from the mid-1960s until 2000. To be awarded to the student graduating from an Honours B.Sc. program in the School of Geography & Earth Sciences who, in the judgement of the School, has achieved the highest standing in the field of sedimentary geology. Value: $1,000.

The Walker / Middleton Fieldwork Fund

Established in 2010 in honour of Gerard Middleton and Roger Walker by a generation of grateful students who studied under them from the mid-1960s until 2000.  A variable number of scholarships to be awarded to students entering Level III, IV, or V of an Honours B.Sc program in the School of Geography & Earth Sciences who, in the judgement of the School, have demonstrated notable academic standing. The scholarships are to be used to offset costs associated with field courses or research undertaken as part of the students’ program of study. Value: $200-500 each.
