Dear colleagues:
It is my pleasure to let you know that the continuation of our Commission has been approved by the IGU Executive Committee at the Tunis meeting in August, 2008. The new executive committee has been formed. I am now the chair of the Commission for 2008-2012. Stewart Fotheringham is the Vice-Chair, and Pavlos Kanaroglou is the secretary. During my chairmanship, I plan to expand our membership by actively engaging geographers in our initiatives and activities, and to become members of the Commission. In addition to advancing research in our field, I think it is essential to work with fellow researchers in other commissions to help solve their problems. To further break down the barriers, I also intend to co-organize activities such as workshops and conferences with other IGU commissions and non-IGU organizations to facilitate interactions and cross fertilizations. I, therefore, count on your support to materialize these initiatives.
To facilitate the administration of our website, I would like to let you know that the URL for our Commission has now been changed into:
http://www.science.mcmaster.ca/~igu-cmgs/
Ric Hamilton is the administrator of the website. The previous website at The Chinese University of Hong Kong will be kept running for a while to ensure continuity. It will be closed when the final transfer is stabilized.
I look forward to working with you to advance our mission.
Best regards,
Yee Leung
Chair
