 Example Supplementary Application Questions

The following are some of the questions that have been asked of applicants to our program over the past several years. Please consider these questions as examples only. Some of the questions do change year over year and it is NOT safe to assume that your questions will be the same as previous year’s.

  • Why are you interested in the iSci program? What is it about iSci that particularly excites you? How do you think iSci will help you develop academically?
  • What area or problem in the sciences or mathematics has most interested you so far?
  • What subject area outside science and mathematics particularly appeals to you?
  • What issue in science do you think is poorly understood by the general public, and how, as a scientist, would you change that?
  • Describe a positive group work experience and a negative group work experience. Reflect and identify what you personally could have done differently to improve the negative experience.
  • Identify one of your experiences or activities and describe how it has influenced you.
  • What organism (other than a human) would you choose to be and why?
  • Name one scientist (past or present) who inspires you. What makes them such a powerful role model?
