Major Scholarship Deadlines

Thinking about grad school – either at McMaster or elsewhere? Need funding? Apply for a scholarship! List of Major Scholarships and Deadlines.

Please advise Carol Robinson, Graduate Program, of the scholarships for which you will be applying via crobin@mcmaster.ca. She is the Department’s scholarship liaison officer. Students are responsible to order transcripts, request references and monitor scholarship information via relevant websites from mid-August onward for information, guidelines, application processes, etc.

OGS Central Competition

All those who applied for Tri-Agency scholarships will automatically be considered for the OGS central competition.  All those applying for graduate studies for Fall 2017 who meet the eligibility requirements will be entered into the OGS competition. All those who are currently in program and meet the eligibility requirements will be notified when the competition is announced and will be encouraged to apply.  The department’s allocation for 2016/17 is 3 OGS awards.  Other applicants will be considered in the central pool.
Please submit an updated CV by end of (Date to be determined.)

Ontario Graduate Fellowships Value $12,000

Candidates who submit a Tri-Council scholarship or OGS award application will automatically be considered.  A separate QE2GSST-specific application is NOT required.  Those already in program who are eligible are encouraged to apply through the OGS competition and will be considered form GSSTs and OGFs on that basis.

Available to VISA students. Nominations are made by department to SGS
Spring 2017, specific date TBA

KAPPA KAPPA GAMMA Fellowship
Female doctoral students are eligible; department will cover the filing fee and courier applications to the foundation.
Application deadline is March 30, 2017. Application is submitted DIRECTLY to Foundation; hardcopies to department office by 3:30pm

MANDELBAUM Award
Grad students must be conducting SSHRC-related research.
Early 2017(Specific date TBA); hardcopies to department office by 3:30pm

Department will nominate candidates when SGS sends notification that funds are available. All eligible candidates are considered.

NSERC Innovation Challenge Award (via Kinesiology to MILO) for recent or soon-to-be graduates whose research translates to real life applications, products, or processes.  Nominations are made by the supervisor and stuent to the department.

SGS Grant-in-Aid TRAVEL RESEARCH & FIELD STUDY AWARDS

Applications may be made at any time during the year through MOSAIC.
Grant-in-Aid applicants will automatically be considered for the HARVEY award.

Applications may be made through MOSAIC.

GSA Travel Awards – 3 times annually, application made through MOSAIC.
GSA applicants will automatically be considered for the HARVEY Travel and YATES Travel awards

Joan Heimbecker Memorial GRADUATE BURSARY
Students must receive no more than $24,500 in gross annual funding. Application available from FORMS page.  Deadline to be announced; due at department office by 4pm

HOOKER FELLOWSHIPS
SSHRC-related research, opportunity for incoming students only – see Grad calendar
Early 2017 – date to be announced; potential supervisors must endorse.

CAGS/UMI 2012 DISTINGUISHED DOCTORAL DISSERTATION AWARDS
Nominations are made by supervisor(s) to the department.
Early 2016; hardcopies to department office by 3:30pm

MacKENZIE KING PhD OPEN/TRAVEL SCHOLARSHIPS
Students must have 11/12 average to apply.
February 1, 2017; hardcopies to the department office by 4pm

ONTARIO TRILLIUM SCHOLARSHIPS (non-Canadians, and Canadians outside Ontario, incoming doctoral)
Applicants for PhD program must have complete applications to be considered.
Early 2017; potential supervisors must endorse candidates.

Joan Heimbecker MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Application is made through MOSAIC.
Deadline is March 10, 2017

ODED BAR-OR BURSARY
Students must receive no more than $24,500 in annual funding and be engaged in research in pediatric exercise and/or pediatric nutrition.  If you apply for the general bursary you will automatically be considered for this bursary.  Application is made through MOSAIC Student Financial Aid.
Deadline is January 10, 2017

GWEN GEORGE BURSARY for ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE
Students must receive no more than $24,500 in annual funding.  If you apply for the general bursary you will automatically be considered for this bursary.  Application is made through MOSAIC Student Financial Aid.

TRI-COUNCIL HARMONIZED MASTER’s SCHOLARSHIPS – DIRECT SUBMISSION on line
SSHRC CGS Master’s, CIHR Master’s Banting & Best, and NSERC CGS Master’s Scholarships
4th yr U/G candidates are to apply via on line portal, and may select up to 5 universities/institutions. MSc Yr 1 should apply listing McMaster as the choice of institution. CGPA must be A minus or higher.  All documentation must be uploaded to the portal by December 1, 2016.  Carol will scan transcripts to pdf, if you need.  Click here for instructions and access to on line portal

ONTARIO WOMEN’S HEALTH SCHOLARS AWARDS

AUTISM SCHOLARS AWARD
MSc value $18,000; PhD value $20,000. Statement of interest/plan of study no more than 1,000 words PLUS a non-technical summary no more than 500 words.

Glen Bandiera & Jolie Ringash RENAISSANCE AWARD Value$ 25,000
Award is intended to improve educational experiences by giving students the means to travel or take part in a course that is productive, creative and challenging.  Experience must NOT be related to their course of study.  November 3, 2016.

Queen Elizabeth II Travel Bursary, funded by A Beale.  For McMaster students in need to allow participation in international exchange programs.  Preference will be given to students travelling to a Commonwealth country.
If you apply for the general bursary you will be consider for this travel bursary. Application is made through MOSAIC Student Financial Aid.

SSHRC Bombardier CGS Doctoral Scholarships
Applications are first ranked at the department level.
October 20, 2016 ; hard copies  to department office by 9:30 a.m.

CIHR CGS Doctoral Scholarships – DIRECT SUBMISSION to the agency
Applications are not reviewed or ranked by the department. SGS internal deadline is September 23, 2016. Competition akin to a research grant – needs ROADS or HSci Fin approval before submission.  All documentation must be uploaded to ResearchNET by Tuesday, October 4, 2016

NSERC CGS/PGS Doctoral Scholarships
Thursday September 22, 2016; hard copy to Carol Robinson by 9:30 a.m. Dept MUST recommend your application.

TRI-AGENCY Michael SMITH FOREIGN STUDY SUPPLEMENT
You must hold a Tri-Agency CGS award at the time you apply and at the time you travel.Previous SMITH Award holders cannot apply. Applications are NOT ranked by the department; however, they are recommended.
