Health psychologists seek a better understanding of health and health-related behaviours by studying emotion, cognition, and motivation. Our research group focuses primarily on physical activity or exercise.
We investigate psychological factors that are related to adoption and maintenance of physical activity in order to better understand and develop methods to enhance participation or adherence. We also examine psychological factors that are affected by participation in physical activity such as mood, body image and other self-perceptions.
Our research utilizes methods that range from laboratory-based experiments to randomized-controlled trials and involves special populations including people with spinal cord injury and cardiovascular disease.
